Indian Meals Which You Simply Must Try

India has become something of a second home to me in recent years and despite the fact that I am usually on the road, I continuously head back to India to spend some downtime. Throughout the years I have traveled extensively through the country, I have taken motorcycle tours in India, I have hiked its mountains and I have lived and breathed its cities.  The reason why I always come back to India is because the people are some of the friendliest on the planet, the way of life is chaotic, but in a calming way, and the food is the best in the world!

Indian food is not exactly what you think it is and if you really want to explore the best cuisine of the country, here are the dishes which you need to try.

Butter Chicken

There are some dishes which you may have tried already in your home town, or bought from your local grocery store, which taste altogether very different when you eat an authentic version of it. One such dish is butter chicken, a creamy and flavorsome curry which is mild and absolutely delicious. The key is that they marinate the chicken overnight in a mixture of spices, herbs and yoghurt, before cooking it in a special Makhani butter sauce. This is one of the most popular curries in the world and once you taste it, you will understand why.

Malai Kofta

This is one of my favorite Indian dishes and one which will blow you away once you try it. The Malai is the cream which the kofta, or deep fried vegetable balls, is cooked in and it acts as a beautiful and creamy curry sauce. Usually you will find this dish more in northern India than anywhere else and it is a greta meal option.

Mutton Biryani

I love Biryanis, they are a filling and fragrant dish which is the perfect level of spice for my palate. The best Biryani that I have found so far is the mutton Biryani which can be found throughout India. I am not sure why sales of mutton are slow around the world, it is a beautiful meat and one which lends itself perfectly to this dish. This Biryani features aromatic rice which has been slowly cooked with pricey saffron, and then served with marinated mutton, absolutely beautiful!

I don’t feel like enough is spoken about India when it comes to desserts, they have some absolutely incredible sweet options for you and my favorite amongst them all is Rasmalai. This dish comes from West Bengal and it features around four or five sponge balls which are made from Paneer, heated up and then served in a creamy, saffron flavored sauce. This is the perfect comfort food and the sponge is light and tasty. This may not be the healthiest of dishes, but those which taste the best rarely are!
