Found in the Atlantic Ocean to the North of the Dominican Republic and just below the Tropic of Cancer, the Turks and Caicos Islands are easily accessible with an international airport on the main island of Providenciales and a luxury cruise liner harbor on the capital island of Grand Turk. With its long sandy beaches, coral reefs, fishing and scuba diving sights, many people have chosen this luxury destination for their vacations, it’s easy to find the best places to stay in Turks and Caicos. Here are what are considered some of the best hotels and spas to stay in if you are thinking of taking a trip there for your holidays.
Hit the beach
When you look at the picture above you get an idea of how special Turks and Caicos is in terms of beaches. Without a doubt these are some of the best beaches on earth. Think of white (and satisfyingly squeaky sand) and the bluest water that you can imagine and then you are on the beach on one of the islands in Turks and Caicos. My favourite beach is without a doubt Grace Bay on Providenciales and I am going to say that it is the best beach that I have ever been to in my life, with its sweeping white sands and the most turquoise water that I have ever seen.
Turks and Caicos is world famous for its scuba diving and is something of a Mecca when it comes to this. The best thing is that the islands lie on the edge of two underwater plateaus that make for steep walls and a perfect place for deep diving. This is ideal of any diver and if you are looking for some simply snorkelling the shallower waters are also perfect for this. The whole marine ecosystem is very unique here and you can see a variety of tropical fish, turtles, rays and dolphins. If you are lucky enough you may even see some whales that use these waters to pass through. It is great to see that these waters are protected and means that scuba diving in the area can be enjoyed for many years to come.
You already know how perfect the water and the unique wildlife is, so now it is time to get outdoors and enjoy it all. In Turks and Caicos, there is just so much that you can do to enjoy this amazing weather and atmosphere. I really enjoy paddle boarding, kayaking and even chartering a boat to explore the islands and experience the pristine waters.
Another great thing that you can explore on Turks and Caicos is the historical sites here. This involves the salt industry and also the former plantations on Grand Turk, South Caicos and Salt Cay. Due to the natural shallow seawater pools and in combination with the warm weather this is ideal for producing salt. At some point these slowed down and you can now visit the former site of these places, which have a very interesting British Bermudian Colonial style. Cotton was also another industry on the islands and you can also see the remnants of the cotton industry on several of the islands.
